Gainesville Fashion Week: Q&A with Model of French, German & Native American Heritage

This past weekend marked Gainesville’s annual Fashion Week. I had the opportunity to interview one of the models, Deonna Webb.

Webb is a third-year International Studies major here at the University of Florida. She is minoring in Business Administration and Spanish.

Q: You have such a unique look! What is your heritage?
I am a mutt! My ancestors are from Spain, France and Germany. I even have some who are Native American.

Q: Do you have any other modeling experience?
A: I’ve been modeling for 4 years now with my agency: BMG based out of Orlando. I’ve done Gainesville Fashion Week 2 times now, Miami Beach International Fashion Week, Jacksonville Fashion Week, Park Avenue Fashion Week, and New York Fashion Week.

Q: Were there any particular designers you modeled for that you really liked?
A: I really enjoyed modeling for Xiaolin and ZanniKini. Xiaolin’s designs were made of real peacock feathers, and Zannie’s swim suits were very trendy.

Q: What do you feel like the purpose of GFW is?
A: I think Gainesville Fashion Week is about all things fashion, not just style and clothes, but art and jewelry and dance and music.

Q: What would you say to other students to encourage them to get involved/attend next year?
A: I would tell other students that GFW is such a fun experience, whether you are a model or you just enjoy fashion. GFW is for anyone!
